Hello Peter and DawnMost OFB’s from Oldenburg have special chapters about the history of the county and the people in question. Some of those chapters in an OFB are more extensive than othersAt OFB Varel there is a chapter: Varels Vergangenheit with a lot of informationAlso by googling you can learn a lot about the history of Oldenburg. I have learned a lot about the life of the people more in general by googling and googling again and again. In former days you had the churchrecords and that’s it. It depends on the timeframe, but most churchrecords do not give much information. Before the civil registration often no ages are mentioned f.e. no parentsnames at weddings, no causes of death etc.In Waddens churchrecords in between 1792-1806 also the cause of death is mentioned (which has been taken over in the OFB). This is very enlightening about the life of the people in that timeframe. Kind regardsReina Hallo,
I am living in Colorado, USA. I have records from Ortsfamilienbuch Varel that trace my Lubbers surname back to the year 1500 in Varel.
My ancestor, August Heinrich Lübbers, emigrated to the USA in 1853.
All I know of the family in Varel are names and dates of birth, marriage and death.
Are there any records online that I could search to find more detail about my ancestors in Varel?
Thank you,
Peter Lubbers
