Hello List:
I've collected all of the information on my LIEBER family that immigrated
from Hannover to New York in 1829 - archives, ship lists, birth/death
records, etc., but have yet to find out just where in Hannover they were
from. The family is not listed on the IGI so I can't search the church
records of any specific town/village in Hannover, which I assume is a
problem for most of us that are searching for our families in the
Hannover region.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to continue my search or should I
consider contacting a genealogist in Hannover? Any help would be much
appreciated!

When you say you collected ALL the information, does that include church
records for marriages and baptisms of all the known ancestors here in the
US. If you have census records, you have addresses. Then, with the help of
a local map you can locate the church they might have attended. I learned
that when requesting information, you must ask specifically for ALL
information on the record concerning that particular event. In Germany it
was the custom for the churches to mention, in the church book, the town
from which the bride and groom came from as well as the parents in a
baptism. Even the towns of godparents are found. When the church here had
a German pastor, or where it was considered a "German church", the custom
usually continued for some time, but not always. Give it a try. Then if
you still don't come up with the town, get similar data on all known
laterals, cousins, aunts, uncles etc. Long after hitting a "brick wall", I
requested information on laterals and I finally received the name of the
birth place on a baptism record of a second cousin that gave me the name of
a town in Germany where the family had come from. I'm sure you will get
several other suggestions from the list. Good luck, Marion
