Bernhard STELKEN and his wife, Gertrude, immigrated to America in 1871.
They settled in northeast Iowa, and had a large family. The family was/is
German Catholic in America.
I have been unable to find any hint of the German origins of the STELKEN.
Two of Bernhard's children married members of the Kramer family who were
from Steinfeld, Oldenburg. So, possibly, the STELKENs are from that
region, too.
I'm wondering if "STELKEN" might have originated as "STOELKEN" OR "STUELKEN."
Does anyone have any suggestions for finding further information?
Thank you kindly,
Marilyn

Hello Marlyn,
the name Stelken is not present in Germany and the other variations are also not present in the Steinfeld area.
But the phone directory listed a lot of "Stelkens" in the Rhein area, like Köln(Cologne), Düsseldorf and others - this is a catholic region. You can check this with:

Good luck,

Thank you! And thank you for checking the German phone book. I tried at
length last evening to get an online German phone book to work, with no
success.
I appreciate your help. Have a great day!
