Hello : I am seeking information about JOHANNA STEINLEIN, b. abt. 1875, from Mecklenburg ; and her father WILLIAM STEINLEIN , b. abt. 1830 ; also MARY VOSS b. abt. 1845, and her son HEINRICH ( HENRY ) VOSS, b. abt. 1870 , from Halbe. JOHANNA STEINLEIN emigrated 1891 on the Dania, from Hamburg to N.Y. WILLIAM STEINLEIN emigrated 1883 , again 1893 with MARY VOSS. HENRY VOSS emigrated from Halbe 1899 with wife Bertha age 25, and 2 small daughters. They all emigrated to Clearfield, Pennsylvania, USA. Any information about these families is appreciated, I am seeking relatives, family, and ancestors, and information about their homes in Germany. JOHANNA STEINLEIN is my Grandmother. We do not know alot about the Voss Family but we too are trying to find
out information.
We do not know yet of all the siblings or the parents but would like to.
CARL VOSS born 1833 and ERNST VOSS born 1835 came over on the Donhau(sp?)
left May 1861 and first came to
Illinois, as Carl served in the Civil War for 5 months and then ended up
in Minnesota. We have found out there was a younger brother Friedrich, but
no dates yet and no information yet on other siblings.
I am getting a copy of the passenger list.
Mecklenburg is where he said he was from. We are trying to get into
church records in that area and surfing the
internet. Please give me any information that you think will help us and
I will do the same. Is there someone who works on Genealogy from
Mecklenburg ?
We are also going to Poland to look up information on the VERGIN FAMILY.
They are from Zempelburg, which is now
Sepolno Krajenskie, Poland. We are leaving on Aug 20 for 2 weeks to Poland
and Germany.

Hello Sally Dutton,
have some general informations on the STEINLEIN-name for you. There are in 1995
about 400 people, respectively families with that name in Germany. I went through
the list of living places and almost 80 per cent live in the southern parts of
Germany with an again 80 percentage in Bavaria. There is a second small centre in
Westfalia in the region Cologne, D�sseldorf, Neu� and Kaarst. In Mecklenburg i
found only two peoplewith the name STEINLEIN:
- STEINLEIN, Karin, Ger�stbauerweg 30, 18109 Rostock, Tel. 0381-1206090
- STEINLEIN, Renate, Buxtehuder Str.4, 18311 Ribnitz-Damgarten, Tel. 03821-810444
Both might have come there after reunification and also might have moved further
meanwhile, but it might also be worth a trial to get into contact.
You might get a list of all STEINLEIN in 1995, if you mail me a private, for me
accessable adress. With VOSS things are much more complicated because of the
great number and similar spread over the whole country.
