Dear Listers,
I am trying to find the hometowns of my relatives with the above
surnames. The Steinert are listed in the U.S. as coming from Gorny
Slask, or Beuvawiash (maybe Bowowice). My Kulik relatives are also
listed as Gorny Slesk, or Wielkie Stawiszcza or Oppeln or
Szczepanowice. The spellings may not be accurate. They came to the
U.S. in the 1880 to settle in Chicago. My Steinert grandfather came to
this country on a manifest as Ignatz Blendawitz with his sister Eva
Blendawitz. Their father was listed as Bernhard Steinert. Can anyone
help with locality. Thank you.
Sophie Gottemoller
hallo Listis, wer findet die Namen der Orte, damit ich aus meinem schlauen
Buch fr Sophie Angaben machen kann?MfG Sigrid
Hallo Sophie und Sigrid,
Gorny Slask bedeutet eigentlich nur Oberschlesien.
Meaning of Gorny Slask is Upper Silesia.
Szczepanowice = Scheppanowitz, since 1936 Stefansfeld, near Falkenberg
(20 km west of Opole)
Sczepanowitz = since 1934 Stefanshoeh, near Opole
Other names unknown at the moment.
Viele Gruesse
