Steel/Iron industries

Hello Listers,

My ancestor from Germany worked as a carpenter in Norway around estimated 1800-1819 in Norway in the Steel and Iron Industries.

Last year I have been to the Museum in Nes, Aust-Agder, Norway, which was very interesting. The people in the museum told me that specialists from Germany have been attracted to work in the Steel and Iron Industries in Norway, because they had experience with this matter. In these industries in Norway they made war materials, guns etc (because of the Napoleontic War) which they transported to Denmark (what supported the Napoleontic war). For these war materials is was necessary to made first wooden models, which the carpenters work has been.

But also iron stoves have been produced, with beautiful motives of representations of humans and animals, found in iron, first cut out of wood, which seems to have been the specific work of the carpenters in the iron and steelindustries.

Does anybody know from where in Germany these carpenters/workers could have been attracted to go for work in the Norwegian (maybe also Danish) steel- and iron industries?

You answer may be of great help. Thanks
Reina
