Gisela Sanders already explained "Standesb�cher" in general. The word is the plural of "Standesbuch". In Nord-Baden they start about 1810 and are at first copies of the church registers (Kirchenb�cher, singular Kirchenbuch) which the priests and vicars had to do every year. They then gave them to the ducal administration in Karlsruhe. Civil registration in Baden started about 1870.
