As you say, he served under the Kaiser, ie under Prussian military
leadership. Sadly we blew Potsdam, where all the castles, museums and
archives were located, to smithereens in the last few weeks of the
war. We had ran out of military targets but had plenty of bombs left.
So all the Prussian records of hundreds of years of history are
gone.
