Hello all & Happy Easter,
Several months ago searching the Family History Library films of St. Vitus,
Visbek, I stumbled upon the baptism of my ancestor, Catharina Elisabeth Wilkens
(AKA Kate) daughter of "Conrad Heinrich Wilkens & wife Anna Maria Freese of
Visbeck" born Mar 8, 1857 baptised Mar 10 1857.
I was looking for her husband Dietrich Hellmann, but found her. Other Hellmann's
who resided Covington, KY were baptised there. Hoped to find Deiterich there or
surronding areas, but.......
Kate, as Kate Hellmann with 2 children Aug. age 2 1/2 (he was born Sep 1 1880) &
Joh age 6mo arrived Baltimore, MD on the ship OHIO Jun 9 1883. she joined her
husband Dietrich AKA Gerhardi Diedrich Hellmann who had arrived the year before
& settled in Covington Ky with other Hellmann's, said to be related, but unknown
how as we have no parents for Dietrich......
I imagine that Kate Wilkens & Dietrich Hellmann married about 1879, possibly at
St. Vitus, but the FHL records do not extend this far.
My brick wall is finding Dietrich Hellmann's parents, perhaps the marriage
record would give this information. I imagine that the Wilkens were still of St.
Vitus, Visbek & possibly they were married there?
I know little German, can pick some words out, don't know anything about German
currency, postage, addresses.........
Need help with suggestions of where to write for the marriage record, how to
address it, how much to send (how to send it) and the postage (probably the PO
can help with this???)
My brick wall, and my mothers brick wall. Would like to tumble it in her
lifetime. Can anyone help?
