Hello Everyone on list.
I am not very fluent in German, so I am writing this email in English, hope
someone can understand it, and maybe provide some information about
'blood line'; SPLETTER/SPLITTER.
Thank you very much,
Bill Splitter, Huntington Beach, California, USA.
The following is a summary of genealogy in US:
Johann Spletter arrived at the Port of Baltimore, MD on Aug. 1867 from Prussia; as per his D.O.I.(declaration of intent to become a citizen of U.S).
According to an 1870 U.S. Census, Johann & family were in the town of Brookfield in Waukesha county, Wisconsin. The family consisted of; he, Menna, wife, John, son, age 1 yr. old.(Menna, was 34 & Johann 35 yrs.)In 1880 U.S. Census, the family lists of; Johannn, Mena, John, Wilhelm, Meja&Charles, located in Fulton twp, Rock county, WI.(living in Newville, near the Rock river).Offspring ages are: 11, 9, 7, & 4, respectively. On marriage cert of Wm(my grandfather)he was born in Elm Grove on 5 Nov 1870. The assumption is that Wilhelmina GESS came w/Johann as his wife from Germany. Location; unknown. On the W. GESS headstone in the Fasset cemetery in Edgerton, WI; b.18 Mar 1836, d. 19 Dec 1906. On the Johann headstone; b.18 Jan 1834, d.20 Sep 1917. Apparently, My grfather, William, changed Spletter, arbitrarily, to SPLITTER. But, the SPLETTER name is in other places. Also, there is a large compliment of SPLITTER's located in Kansas. I have contact with them. They are probably not related to the Johann lineage. For most my ancestors have lived & died in Rock county.
