Sonderfindbuecher Record at Hauptstaatsarchiv Hannover

Hello to everyone,

I am new to Hannover-l, having just learned of it recently. I was browsing the list archives when I found a link to Hauptstaatsarchiv Hannover. I typed in my great-great-grandparents' names and was thrilled to find them listed in something called the Sonderfindbuecher. I don't see a form to request a copy of the record, and I'm wondering if someone can tell me how to get a copy.
Will the Archive send it to me, or it is necessary to find someone to go to there and copy the record? Is there anyone connected with this list that does that sort of work? What is the Sonderfindbuecher? The record seems to be dated just before my ancestors emigrated.

Thank you.
Janet

Hello Janet,

I think you will find what you need by simply using this site:

  http://aidaonline.niedersachsen.de/

I'm presuming you are looking for family that immigrated.

Put the name of your ancestor in the box. You will then see the records.
Click on each one listed for more information. Most of the time, that will
be all that you need.

Barbara

Hi Barbara,
The link you posted is the one that I used to find the Sonderfinbuecher Record (found in an archived Hannover-L message).
My ancestor's Chicago church death record states that he originated from Oitzen, Hanover, which is south of Luneburg in the Uelzen district. His name is not found in the Uelzen emigrant records, however.
The AIDA Sonderfindbuecher record states that he originated in Oerzen, Hanover, which is a different town, closer to Luneburg. I would like to find out which town is the real place of origin. I thought if I sent for the record, there would be additional
information. But I know little about German records, so I might be
wrong.
My ancestor's wife came from Bleckede, a town close to both Oitzen and Oerzen. So it seems that either place could be an origin for him.
Thank you for the reply...

Hello Janet,

I don't know the names you are looking for, so I can't be sure if I'm
near to what you are trying to locate. I have a very detailed German atlas
(448 pages) and Oitzen is not listed in the index. They do not always list
the tiny towns. However, I would suggest that the Oitzen is actually
Oerzen, which is west of Lüneburg. A lot of records based on someone's
spelling can vary a bit, for sure. Oerzen is located west of Lüneburg near
Embsen.

In order to find people in these very small towns in church record, for
example, I usually look at the records the LDS has. The town Oerzen would
probably be included with Embsen:

Germany, Preußen, Hannover, Embsen (AG. Lüneburg) - Civil registration
Zivilstandsregister, 1810-1811 Embsen (AG. Lüneburg, Hannover).
Standesamt
That isn't much information, but it may be helpful. There is/was a church
in Embsen.

There is also the town of Oetzen which is northeast of Uelzen. It's very
small and the map shows a church there. (nothing from the LDS) Then to the
north west of Oetzen is the town of Oetzendorf!

I'd suggest that you look at http://meta.genealogy.net/ - you can run
a search by the name of the town or a person's name. There are a lot there
for Oetzen.

Good luck!
Barbara

Hi Barbara (and all)

Names I am researching:
* Friedrich Heinrich Christoph Pätzmann/Paetzmann b. 13.Aug.1834
* His wife, Marie Elisabeth Danzmann, b. 15.Feb.1845
* Their son, Heinrich Christoph Pätzmann/Paetzmann b. 10.Aug.1869
* F.H. Christoph’s widowed mother, b. 1803. Her name seems to have been Anna Catharina Dorothea T. Paetzmann, maiden name unknown

They took an indirect passage from Hamburg to New York in April, 1872, I believe.

I have an old map of the area south of Bleckede (LDS film #0068814) as well as a 1995 German roadmap. Oitzen and Oetzen (Ülzen district) appear to be the same place to me. It is spelled Oitzen on the old map, Oetzen on the new.
And Oerzen is near Embsen, as you said.

I have found Pätzmanns/Paetzmanns/Petzmanns all around Lüneburg and Hannover in LDS records, but not my ancestors. Several families by that name emigrated to the U.S. in the 1860s and 1870s and some earlier, too.
I will try meta.genealogy.net. I have used the LDS facility many times and they are a good resource. However, I have not succeeded in research earlier than the date my ancestors emigrated.

Thanks again.
Janet
