Searching surname: Poddig

hello,

I'm Ewa Poddig from Wroclaw (Breslau), Poland.
I'm a daughter of Jolanta Michalkiewicz and Edward Poddig (born in 1953).
My grandfather is Bronislaw Poddig - son of Stefan Poddig.
Stefan Poddig was a son of Otto Poddig. Stefan stayed in Poland.
Rest of Poddig's family (Otto, Wiktoria -wife, Hedwig -daughter, Bruno -son)
went to Germany in 1909. We know, that Bruno Poddig had 3 sons
(Erhart, Gerhart, Manfred) and 2 daughters.

My Surname is quite rare, and i'm curious if You know some Poddig's and
their past.
I have no experience in genealogy searching - specialy in Germany..
Maybe You could give me a piece of advice.

Sorry Ewa,

You need to be more exact. Where in Poland did your relatives come from? How
did your immediate family get to Silesia which was not Polish but German
till 1945? Where in Germany did "the rest of the Poddig family" settle? Your
last name seems to be German, in other words, your family may stem from
either the Prussian province of Posen (Polish: Poznan) that became Polish
again after World War I, or they were Germans from that part of Poland that
used to belong to Russia. We would need to know this in order to give
advice.

Have a look at www.dastelefonbuch.de , the German electronic telephone
directory, and you will find 110 Poddigs listed there.
