Hello Robert,

Have you used the LDS website www.familysearch.org ?
There are a number of Steinkamps listed such as Gerd Henry born Aug 1835 and
died 24 Mar 1894 in Osnabruck (city). The LDS does list microfilm for
Osnabruck. If you live near a center, you could order and view the films
there.

Also, check http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html and do a search
for the surname in both the box at the top there and also in the Metasearch
on the right. There are a number of Steinkamps listed which lead to
researchers with email addresses that you could try writing to. There are
a couple of Steinkamps listed as born in Steinkamp which is east of Bremen
near Oyten.

Have you checked the Steinkamps listed at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ There are many there born in areas around
Osnabruck, like Venne, for example. (There are LDS records just for the
1800's in Venne). Do they fit in what you are looking for?

Did your people emigrate to America? You probably have done all of the
above already--I'm just offering suggestions.

Good luck,
Barbara Stewart

The address for the Lutheran church and the parish books for Osnabrck is:

The Catholic Church should be reachable by:

Looking for the following: STEINKAMP; KUHLMANN

Both are very common names. You find KUHLMANN, A., means only those Kuhlmann
having as first letter of the Christian name an "A." about 500 having telefone,
with STEINKAMP there are less, but not much less. In Osnabrck nowadays there are
about 45 bearer of that name, KUHLMANN about 90. Counting back the situation to
the given range, it will be a very extended research getting the one Gerhard
Heinrich Steinkamp out of a larger number of entries to this name. If you could
find a death record with the given age, the problem would be smaller by the
factor 15.

2 **Gerhard Heinrich STEINKAMP**. Born in Osnabruck, Germany. No other data
available yet. Probably birth time in the 1825-1840 range.

Gerhard Heinrich married Anna Maire Luise HARMEYER.

Th here common writing for the Harmeyer-name is HAARMEYER with double a and
HAARMEIER with "i" instead of "y". For 1995 there are given 8 HAARMEIER and 2
HAARMEYER in Osnabrck. Give me a mail, if you wish to trace back the HAARMEI(Y)-
ER-roots by getting in contact by writing to one of them or try to get the actual
adresses by the phonebook, www.telefonbuch.de. Although you say, you know enough
about this anchestor, I would try to get more news about the exactly place of
origin of the Steinkamp and Kuhlmann by mentioned godfathers and godmothers of
the Haarmeier family childs with their living places to better the chances for a
hit in the research for these names. Osnabrck has several parishes, if there is
a mentioning of a special one, you need not to do or let do the research in all
of them.

A next hint for research is going to the German www.genealogy.net, where you can
perhaps find adresses and people who are working on the same name or same region
by going in your case on the homepage for Lower-Saxony or Niedersachsen.

Good Luck and best wishes Hans Peter Albers
