Searching for Krieter, Gatzemeier

Hi! I am new to the list. I am researching the following people and would
appreciate any applicable information you may have.

Johan Kaspar KRIETER b. 30 Sept 1856, Langenhagen
     m: Elizabeth KONRADIE b. Langenhagen
     f: Jacob KRIETER b. 1824 Brochthausen

Anna Frances KRIETER (nee GATZEMEIER) b. 30 Oct. 1863, Hilkaroda
     m: Frances GATZEMEIER (nee NOLTE) b. 1844
     f: Christopher GATZEMEIER b. 1818 Hilkaroda

John and Anna emmigrated to Braunschweig probably early in 1886. They then
emmigrated to Chicago, Ill. in 1890.

LDS has very limited information. I have found a 1852 and 1855 census of the
area (Standsamt Gieboldhausen, Kreis Duderstadt), but not much else. I am
positive that they were all Catholic.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks already to Valentine who let me know about the Wheeling Historical
Society (My father spent a good part of his youth in Wheeling.) And thanks
to Fred Rump who translated the Staatsarchive information - that has been
very helpful.

Hello Cindy,
There is more than one Langenhagen in Germany! But I presume you mean
the one near Hilkeroda (with a different spelling than yours). If you go to
this address:
     http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html

Click on Metasearch in the right column. If you do a search for
Gatzemeier, you will find several names. There is an email address usually
attached to the record for the name. There is one there by the name of
Kai-Dietrich Noering who is obviously doing the same research as you. One
of the towns he lists is Fuhrbach and that is very near to the towns you
have in your records. He is from Germany so maybe he can help you about
research in that area.
Perhaps you have already been in contact with him, but if not, you may
find some new information.

Cindy,

Have you been in touch with the person on this page under Halfman?
Your people are mentioned there.

Cindy,
     One last thing--
I think it is possible that your people attended church in
Duderstadt since the towns you mention are so close to that. The LDS has
many Catholic church records for there. I really would try to look at that.
If that is so, you have clear sailing!

Cindy,
This is a site for the Catholic diocese of Hildesheim:

          Startseite: Deutsche Bischofskonferenz

You can click on the letters of the towns. There is a church for Duderstadt
with an email address. You can write them to find out whether their
church records (which the LDS has filmed) would include the birthplaces of
your family. There is a Langenhagen listed, but it is not the one you want
(according to the postal code). The postal codes for Langenhagen, Hilkerode
and Brochthausen are the same as for Duderstadt (37115).
I hope you have an LDS center near you, because you are probably going
to be able to use the Duderstadt records--let's hope so.
Barbara

Cindy,
I'm sorry. I have to correct myself. That website I gave you is not
for the Hildesheim diocese. It was a link from there to another site that
seems to list only Catholic churches that have an online listing. I really
don't read German--I just fumble around with it so --I may be wrong when I
said that the other towns you were looking for didn't have a church. It
shows a church on the map in each of them. But I still think the old
records may all be with Duderstadt.
