Search for TOBEN

Hi, Ruth! If I tell you a whole bunch of stuff you already know, forgive me.

Some of my Ostfriesen/East Frisian ancestors were actually from
Oldenburg—from Schortens and Tettens, located on a sliver of Oldenburg
that runs along the eastern side of East Frisia. Perhaps that's where
your TOBEN is from.

I assume they were married in Germany, since they came to America as a
couple. Do you know if they were married in Carolinensiel? If so, maybe
the church record will tell where he's from?

The church at Carolinensiel is Lutheran. Here are the beginning dates for
their records. There is no "OSB" available:

Here's contact information for the church:

Good luck!

My great grandfather was HERMANN GOTTFRIED THEODOR TOBEN, born June,

1841,

from Oldenburg. He married Anna Marie WEERS of Carolinensiel/
Altfunnixsiel. They emigrated, arriving on the Steamer NY 7 May 1868

from

Bremen and settled in Peoria, Illinois.

I have a complete ancestry of the Weers family in Hanover, but can

someone

please help me find H.G.T. Toben's family in Oldenburg? Family legend

was

that he was the "black sheep" of the family, therefore out of touch.

They

went to the Lutheran church in Peoria. Children were named: Anton

Herman, Edward Wilhelm, Hero Gerhard (Hero was maternal gfather),
Henrietta Margaretha (Marg., maternal gmother), and Alina (mat. aunt).
Only two lived to adulthood: my grandfather Anton, and Hero who never
married. My father had no brothers nor sons; therefore I am lone
survivor

of the Toben name here, but I wonder if there were brothers and other

descendants of this Toben line somewhere??? Does anyone know?

Forever grateful, Ruth
