Search for family name of Riddering

Hello,

I am looking for the family of Mathias RIDDERING (born on October 12, 1862) and Hinderika (KOK) RIDDERING. I confirmed Hinderika's birthplace of Veendam, Netherlands on September 16, 1855. They came to the USA via Canada on the S.S.Montfort sailing from Antwerp on April 26, 1911. They had 4 children with them, Bernhardt, Albertus, Marie and August.

Father of Mathias was also called Mathias, but no known name for his mother. Hinderika's parents were Albert A. KOK and Maria (KASPERS) KOK.

Their last address was in Hannover (Haniems).

I am the granddaughter of Marie (Riddering) Mengenhausen. Any information you may have would be very welcomed.

Hello Kathie,

I've been looking for your Riddering and have not yet been able to tie
anything down. I think your family probably lived in the Emsland which is
near to the Netherlands border (near the Ems river). That area was mostly
Catholic and I have ancestors from there. I have found a Ridderinck in 1632.
I found Mathias Riddering, as a godfather in baptismal records in 1658.
(Names are not always spelled the same in those early years sometimes it
is Ridderinck or the like.) There is a Mathias as early as 1721 and I found
a Margaretha who died in 1837. There are many more. Some of the records I
have are from Wesuwe (until 1845)and the little villages around there. I
have records from Haren and other villages nearby. The church records start
around 1619 and the earliest record of a Riddering there is in 1669.
Unfortunately, I cannot find your Mathias Riddering in the time frame you
have.

There are 35 people with the name of Riddering in the German phone book
today. Many are in the Haren area, but they are in other areas as well. This
website will show you on the map where the Riddering name is most common:
http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/en/Default.aspx

The LDS (Mormon) have some records you could view. Here¹s the website:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp

If you get desperate, you can go to Osnabrück and view microfilms at the
Catholic diocese. We did that, but didn¹t have enough time to gather
everything we were looking for. There is also another site that is very
good: http://www.emslanders.com/sources.htm

   Look here: http://www.KGVerband-Meppen.de/familienforschung.html That
site is doing work for the diocese of Osnabrück. You can go there or write.
They will do research for you - I was very lucky and got the birthplace of
my gggrandmother from them. They know the area and can help you. There is a
charge if they do the research (not bad you pay money if you go in person
to Osnabrück or ask them to do the research).

Look in the phone book! There is a Matthias Hermann Riddering from
Dorpen there. Call him or write him he has to be one of your family. I¹ll
keep the Riddering name in mind and I¹ll keep hunting.

Hello Anna Marie,

I only have incomplete church records for 3 towns in Emsland (and they
are incomplete). I wish I had more!

When you go to the LDS site with the "place" fill in the town of
Emlichheim. There are some records for Emlichheim for the Catholic church:

Kirchenbuchduplikat, 1814-1822 Katholische Kirche Bentheim (Grafschaft)
That is very limited, but it may be somewhat helpful. . If you wanted to
view the records, you would order them from the LDS if there is a center
near you.

There are some other sites I will check later. Meanwhile, take a look at
this website - use the spelling of Kopmeieners:

Also, here are a lot of names that you have:

Hello again,

Have you looked at this? http://meta.genealogy.net/
Enter the various spelling of the names. The town of Hesepe is not that far
from Emlichheim - people do relocate from time to time.

This is the family book where you will find the names:
   genealogy.net - Online-OFBs

Do a search for Heers on meta.genealogy.net. I'll look for her in the
church records I have. There are about 186 Heers names in Germany today:
http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/en/Default.aspx

This is about all I can find for now.

Barbara

I had looked at Hesepe years ago, and had found a few but there seems that
just this month more were added, the only problem is they are all too
early, so have added them to my referance notes, but I wish to thank you
for any and all suggestions, Anna Marie Schmitz
