My husband's great-grandfather was Gustav SCHURDEL, son of Martin SCHURDEL.
Martin SCHURDEL was born 1816 at Guhren, an estate near Schlobitten, Prussian Holland. He was the son of a nobleman who fled from France at the time of the French Revolution and rented an estate from zu Dohna at Guhren.
Martin taught the von Kanitz children at Podangen. He also taught at Steegen.
There is a marriage record of Martin's brother Gottfried Adolph SCHURDEL in Riesenburg, Kr. Rosenberg, West Prussia in 1840.
If anyone knows of any records available from that area in that time period, or has any information or any clues to help in my searching, I would greatly appreciate it.
The first mentioned Gustav Schurdel, b 1840 in Steegen, studied at the teacher training seminar at Pr. Eylau (Thank you, Gnter Hffken!). He later taught at Friedheim, Wirsitz, Posen, and I have found the baptism records of his children there.
Thank you!
