Schroeder, Heitbrink, Roth - Hannover to USA

My Hannover family:
Johann Heinrich Schroeder, b. May 1813, d. 09 Dec 1889 Ripley County, Indiana
Catherine [--?--], b. 15 Aug 1832, d. 27 Jan 1912 Ripley County, Indiana
Katherine Maria Schroeder, b. 30 Jul 1843, d. 05 Apr 1926 Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio
Friederike Schroeder, b. 23 Nov 1848, d. 1925 Ripley County, Indiana
Engel Schroeder, b. about 1851
Frederick E. Schroeder, b. 29 Nov 1853, d. 28 Jun 1919 Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio
Harmon/Herman F. Schroeder/Schrader, b. 13 Feb 1856, d. 10 Nov 1915 Warren County, Iowa
Charles Henry Schroeder, b. 17 Feb 1858, d. 06 Dec 1937 Bowie County, Texas (My great grandfather)
John Henry Schroeder, b. Apr 1860
Anna Marie Schroeder, b. Aug 1864, d. after 1930 Ripley County, Indiana

Obviously, Catherine was not the mother of the older children.

The family, with the exception of Katherine Maria, sailed from Bremen on the ship Ocean arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on 08 Nov 1865. Katherine Maria had arrived earlier, married, and was living in Cincinnati. The family stayed with Katherine Maria for a time before Johann and Catherine relocated to Jackson County, Indiana sometime before 1870 where two more children, William F. and Louisa M., were born. Eventually Johann and Catherine settled in Ripley County, Indiana along with some of the children, while other family members settled in Iowa and Texas.

When I last posted I had found a Family Search ancestral file that indicated Herman F. and John Henry had married in Warren County, Iowa, and showed their mother to be Catherine Hidebrink. I was trying to verify the "Hidebrink" information, and Anke Waldmann kindly posted the following message:

Hello Sandra,

what about this couple:

Johann Heinrich Schröder, born Apr 25, 1814 in Deitinghausen, parish of Schledehausen, son of Caspar Heinrich Schröder and Maria Elisabeth Moormann, tenant in Hiddinghausen, married Oct 25, 1836 Catharina Maria Heitbrink, born abt. 1818 in Wulften, parish of Schledehausen, daughter of Johann Wilhelm Heitbrink and Maria Gertrud Schnelle.

I've no information about children of this couple nor if they left Germany.

My family is from that area, too. You may want to have a look at www.grambergen.de

Greetings from Germany

Anke Waldmann

Although intriguing, I haven't been able to connect my family to this one. The LDS library catalog indicates they have Schledehausen church records, but microfilm is not available. Fortunately, I recently located the death certificate for Frederick E. Schroeder, and it shows his mother to be Maria HEITBRINK! Then I found information that the name "ROTH" is on Catherine Schroeder's tomb stone, and is possibly her maiden name. Now I am trying to verify that Maria HEITBRINK is wife #1 and Catherine ROTH is Johann's second wife.

Does anyone have suggestions about where the Schledehausen church records may be available? If Anke Waldmann is still on this board, I would love to hear from you. I so hope a breakthrough is near.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sandra Powell

Dear Howard,

On the 1880 census in St. Louis, Missouri in the same hh or perhaps landlord, or nextdoor neighbor to my Feldhaus family line lived a Theresia Bahne or Bohne. My Aunt Cauthy is married to a Boni.

My most difficult quest doing genealogy is pronounciation. In my own research I find spelling not constant..or else it's the hand scribe that is difficult.

Quite often I find myself second guessing myself. Do you know what I mean. Then I verify with an alternate record. Then I wonder... did I do that right?? And look for another record. Any kind of mention of that surname, in that place, of that age, of the ancestors I am truly certain of.

Do you ever find yourself doing that?

But I think that is the fun of genealogy. And the most interesting part to me is finding toenail connections.

Everyone has a cousin...
Who has a cousin..
Who is a cousin...
Of Yours....

Warmest Regards,
Barbie-Lew
