I am from Leipzig and I go some days in the year in Leipzig Staatsarchiv.
But I cannot understand your problem. What's your problem in Leipzig?

I have email Leipzip Staatsarchiv twice with no reply.What I need is to find out what Schmidt Family Records is it a film or a book?If it is a film what is the number and if it is book how do I order it.The reason is the information in the Schmidt Family Records is from living relative in Germany.I am related to the Schmidts from my mom side.They lived in East Prussia around Gubimnnen.I have traced them back to 1721.

I was in Leipzig Staatsarchiv and ask for your question. In Leipzig
Staatsarchiv there is no one Schmidt Family Record. The family name Schmidt
is one of the most German family names. You can search in the computer of
the Staatsarchiv for a first name and the family name Schmidt. You can found
many Schmidt as a part of many films ore family books. You must search for a
concrete Schmidt ore a concrete church book.
