I'm hoping someone can assist in finding the surname:
Scherbing from Mecklenburg, Germany.
Charles F. Scherbing was born on 10/13/1833 in
"Michlenburg", Germany - died on 5/2/1907. His parents
were Theodor and Sophia Scherbing.
Elizabeth Schultz married Charles F. Scherbing. She
was born on 9/24/1835 in Germany and died on
1/15/1916.
Charles came to New York in 1857, I don't know if he
came with Elizabeth, but they were married on April
14, 1857 in New York. They moved to Aurora, IL in
1857.
Any info. on this seemingly rare name would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,Nan
Hi,
I checked the indexe of the 1819 census of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the
marriage index 1826-1875 of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. There is NO Scherbing
!
There are several Scherping's.
Thought, this information could be helpful for your further search.
Sincerely,

Dr. Gronau:
Thanks much for checking on this for me!
It may have originally been Scherping, though I was
able to search out two Scherbings living in and near
Berlin...which made me think they were indeed
Scherbings, but that name could have changed for those
two individuals also.
You work in the Dept. of Math at the University of
Rostock? I've been working various positions at the
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota for
many years.
Thanks again for your wonderful assistance!
Sincerely,
Nan
