Hmm, a bit off topic, but related. I have found my German roots in Mittweida, Sachsen/Saxony. How do I find the cemetary (friedhof?) in this village and a map of the cemetary interments? I have done this in Washington state, just not sure how to do it in a village in Germany? thank you!!

You will not find the graves of any of your ancestors. AIR in Germany after 20 years and in Switzerland after 30 years , the bone are dug up and placed in an ossuary. The grave markers are recycled for other uses.

Is this date 1811 or 1911?. You should write dates as 6 Aug 1811 (if the above date is European style) or 8 Jun 1811
(American)

There may be very old graves because although during the last century it became the custom
that graves are kept (bought) for twenty five years at a time, after that the family may buy
further time (even cemeteries are a business) - very old graves are often kept for historic
reasons, or are just forgotten if the land is not needed.
However I think you would be more successful to get in touch with the town of Mittweida, it is
by no means a village:
Just have a look at the website which unfortunately is not in English. Mittweida (as all of
Saxony) is of course in the former German Democratic Republic where pupils were taught
Russian rather than English, but there is a university and also a Genealogy Society.
On your behalf I have written a mail to the town to find someone at the registrar's office who
speaks English - if they answer I will then start the contact between that person and you. Have
done the same with the Genealogy Society.
If and when contact has been made I will let you know directly to your e-mail address - o.k.?
Hi Jan.
If I have read you post correctly? You're family is from the Sachsen region? If this is correct ?Try the Die Mous society,(Simply Google Die Mous) they have links to various Cemetery sites in Germany (Mainly in the Bremen area) However they could be useful?
