Another suggestion for those pages you've written about family...why not save them in the wiki
  http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/wiki/Main_Page
Start your personal page and mention the family names, then link them to a separate page where you tell their story (photos can be added too) and also link them to the Ancestors Database.
Another idea for photos you have stored. You can also store them on a site such as Snapfish www.snapfish.com Along with your own area, you can set up a "group room" where photos can be shared with others. We recently had a family reunion and I could share all the photos we took with the whole family. I'm also on my high school reunion committee and I could share all the photos I took with the other committee members.
Then if you want to order prints you can. I have found their quality fine.
Another site I've used is www.shutterfly.com I've also ordered prints from them and had no problems. Both site also offer products your pictures can be placed on. (by the way, I have no financial interest in either of these companies--this is only a suggestion of somewhere else you can store your pictures and not worry about losing them if your computer crashes). Neither of these sites charges you to store your photos. They do offer free photos when you first sign up (no charge to sign up) you do have to pay for shipping and handling.
  Hope some of this helps.
