Hello Listers,

I hope someone may be able to help me.

My great-great-grandfather, Friedrich ROHDE was a resident of Conow,
Mecklenburg-Strelitz. After the death of his wife, he married Sophia KOHN (no
umlaut), between 1844 and 1848. I have not been able to locate this marriage
record. It is not listed in the Franz Schubert Kopulation register nor
have I found it in neighboring churches in Kreis Prenzlau or Kreis Templin.

I'm aware that there was a Jewish congregation in Feldberg and wonder if
perhaps this is where the marriage took place. Their son, Wilhelm Christian
Carl ROHDE, my great-grandfather was born in Conow in 1848 and baptized at
the Evangelical church.

Can anyone tell me about the availability of and where I might find these
Jewish records?

Hello Mr. Mason,

My initial thought is that I was under the impression (confirmed by my own research in church records in Mecklenburg) that the marriages took place in the town of residence of the woman, in her parish, not necessarily where the man was living at the time. Do you know if Sophia Kohn was also living in Conow during this time period? Do you know where she was born (from her death/burial record)?

Btw, I also have Rohde in my genealogy. Further north than Conow, however, in Mecklenburg-Schwerin. My gr-gr-grandmother (1842-1900) was a Rohde, from Rehna. The family traces back in Rehna a few more generations. Also in Kluetz.
