Hello, Fellow Listers!
Am wondering if anyone out there can point me in the right direction...Have been researching a man by the name of Theodore Henry Rohde. He was born in either Himmelstheur or Hannover in the Kingdom of Hannover in 1831. His father was Ludwig Rohde, the tax collector of Himmelstheur.
Theodore attended medical school in Gottingen and then became a surgeon in the Prussian army. Also, at some point around this same general time period, he was also knighted.
It was suggested to me by an individual that I might try to learn more about his military service through his knighthood. However, I am not sure where to begin in starting my research on either - his military service or his knighthood.
I would love to hear from anyone who feels they may be related and would be interested in exchanging information or anyone with any suggestions on how I might proceed myself!
Many Thanks,
T.G.

Hello or somebody else,
Himmelsthuer is part of 31137 Hildesheim with nowadays 35 bearer of the name
ROHDE, Hannover with postcodes from 31417 up to 31669 has nowadays about 150
bearers of the name ROHDE. If you follow up this spread back, one may say even in
the past there must have been a very great number of ROHDES in both towns. So I
would start with fixing the place of birth by the parish books:
for Himmelsthuer:
- Catholic: Katholische Kirche, Kirchenbucharchiv, Domstr. 24, 31137 Hildesheim
- Lutherian: maybe: Kirchliche Dienste im Sprengel Hildesheim, Burgstr.22, 31134
Hildesheim
for Hannover:
Catholic: Gesamtverband der katholischen Kirchengemeinden in Hannover und
Zentralkartei, Clemensstr. 1, 30169 Hannover
Lutherian: Evangelisch-Lutherischer Stadtkirchenverband, Kirchenbuchamt,
Hildesheimerstr. 165/167, 30173 Hannover
I would love to hear from anyone who feels they may be related and would be

So, you could write to the parishes for the birth documents, but there will be
costs in any case of research. The lots of Rohde's in both towns indicate a not
to easy search and increased amout of time needed for finding. That why you
should check before the probability of each place and all available dates already
with you, to simplify the work and by that costs.
For the military history there should be more specialized people on the list as I
am one. Good luck in all your researches Hans Peter Albers
we have Rohde in Schaumburg Illinois - since 1861, perhaps earlier
we have a mailing list IL-cook-Schaumburg-L@rootsweb.com
you might want to check to see if there is any info on him in the archives....

Hello,
If you live near a LDS center (www.familysearch.org), they have church
records for Himmelstheur:
Kirchenbuch, 1649-1852 Katholische Kirche Himmelsthür
Kirchenbuch, 1853-1874 Evangelische Kirche Himmelsthür
The Evangelical doesn't cover much, but if your Rohde was Catholic, you
may be interested.

Hi, Barbary!
Thank you for the suggestion. I will get in touch with them and see if possibly they will have some records!
