Hello,
I need help with old maps.
Johann Heinrich Meissner/Meisner was christened 12 Oct 1712 Evangelical Church Roedgen Westfalen s/o John Jacob Meissner. He married Anna Catherina Boehmer (d/o Johann Heinrich Boehmer) on 22 Mau 1836 at Roedgen. They were in North America by 1740. On maps here in Canada, I find Roetgen Westfalen, near Aachen and the Dutch border. Some family say that it was near Gutersloh Rhineland Pfalz. On the map Roetgen and Gutersloh are about 200 kms. Are Rotgen and Roedgen the same place?
Thank you
Heather Knight
Dear Heather,
Gütersloh is not in Rheinland-Pfalz, it`s in Ost-Westfalen, near Bielefeld.
There it gives not a Roetgen.
I Think, your Roetgen is this Roetgen near Aachen.
Roetgen and Roedgen is the same name.

Dear Heather,
there gives a Roedgen county from*//*Esch-sur_L'Alzettein Luxembourg.
"*Roedgen* (Luxembourgish <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourgish_language>: /Riedgen/) is a small town in the commune <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communes_of_Luxembourg> of Reckange-sur-Mess <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reckange-sur-Mess>, in south-western Luxembourg <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg>\."

es gibt
ein Roetgen an der Grenze zu den Niederlanden, in Nordrhein Westfalen und Gütersloh liegt etwa 250km weg von dort auch in NordrheinwestfalenRoetgen is a municipality near the Dtsch border in North Rhine Wesphalia , same for Gütersloh away ~255km from Roetgen not Roedgen)
Uwe Roeder,
Thank you for your reply to my query. Yes I think that maybe when Roetgen was transcribed in southeast Asia for Family Search and Ancestry they made a spelling mistake "d" for"t". I was in Germany 2 years ago and went to Gutersloh and did not find a klein dorf nearby called Roedgen.
Vielen Danke
