the correct village for your ancestors, and if you have an LDS center near
you, you can order the microfilms for Melle for the years 1808-1858.

I just found the immigrant ship with the Papenbaums--maybe you have it
as well. Go to www.istg.rootsweb.com--it is in Vol. 4 Bark Meridian
(Bremen to New York) Sept 16 1857. It lists the place of origin as Berme.
I don't know where that is. My atlas shows Bermel (in Rheinland) or Berne
(two of them in Hanover). Sometimes when the town is below 50 persons in
population, it won't be in the index in my atlas (Piepenbrink is like that).
There is someone on that same list from Melle. So, perhaps, if we look hard
enough we can find Berme somewhere near Melle. I haven't found it yet
though. I'll keep looking!
