Greetings Franken-L Subscribers,
I am seeking advice on researching my ancestor named Nikolaus NERING, born ~1758 in Würzburg, as indicated by Musterliste of k.u.k. Infanterie Regiment 12 ("Kheverküllen"), where he served between 1776 and 1784. In later years he lived in Maehrisch Neustadt, Vienna, and finally in Krems an der Donau, where he died. I would like to reach his birth/baptism certificate (catholic), but also to find out about his ancestors and possible siblings.
Thus far, I have been suggested to visit the Catholic Archive at Würzburg, or to reach out to Gesselschaft fuer Familienforschung in Franken. Before I do any of these, and given the current situation making traveling to the archive a challenge, I wish to ask
whether anyone could recommend any source of information different than parish records, that could be reached online, and that could possibly shed any light on Nering Family from Würzburg?
This is the first time I am doing any kind of research in Germany, so I should be most grateful for any piece of advice.
