Researching LEO +von LEO of Berlin +Konigsberg OstPreussen

Hallo Rick,

I believe your way to Leo family is wrong. Your real family name is "von Fritzow" but not in the German spelling. I believe your family name is "Frycowski". The Frycowski family is an noble polish family of the coat of arms "prus I" online-wappenrolle.eu - Informationen zum Thema online wappenrolle. . When your GGGGrandfather was in the German army he can change the spelling.

Carsten

Thankyou Carsten
You have surprised me again...
I could not see the name Frycowski, but I did see another name that is mentioned in our Family stories Falkenheyn
Would you know of a link so I can check for Military Officers, Estate ownere etc as my usual links [familysearch etc] have nothing
wishing you a warmer day than we are having here today
Kind Regards Rick

Hallo Rick,

here a link to the noble family von Falkenhayn.

Carsten

Hallo,
Rick, the deducation of Carsten ist right, they exists Frycowski h. Prus I [Uruski, Vol. 4, Warschau 1907, site 65], first known Andrew, died 1615, it is possible the some take in Prussia place and named von Fritzow, but this is only a hypothese, it must be werificated. Because any so named family was owner of Fritzow, is only the hypothese of Carsten real.

But I look short a family named von Fritzow and I didnt found anywhere.

You have send exactely informations what you have

Hi and Thankyou
Just a couple of things.
Our [CAL] Charles August Leopold Leo von Fritzow,Treptow Pomerania spoke and could write German French and Latin and apparently not very good English.....I believe if he had come from some noble house in Poland he would have spoken also Polish...This has never been mentioned..
I also think he was being sneaky [untruthful] and did not want his origin found as there are two Fritzows near Treptow a.d.R in Pomerania. One near Cammin the other near Korlin

To change his name in New Zealand from
Leo von Fritzow to LEOV the v added so we would never forget he came from a noble Family....Poland when under the control of Russia approx 1760-1888 made a rule if [lower] nobility was not registered
before this time they lost it....as I understand it.......
however I had information from GStA concerning this LEO family of Military Officers they lost nobility 1835 because they could not prove 3 generations....Our Family today are not that concerned about the nobility, but was hoping it may have been a clue,to help find out what ever happened to CAL's brother August and two Sisters Amalia and Johanne
Kind Regards Rick

Hallo Rick,
if he felt under russian authority after dividing the the Res Publica (Poland-Lithuania), so he was'nt coming from Prussia. So he did'nt lost his nobleship in 1835, but he did'nt get legitimation of his nobleship under the new (russian) law.

But I think, than in this case he did'nt wear the name von Fritzow and he change his Fricowski h. Prus I germanisated it in Fritzow and put in front of it the prussian v./von (thay was more similar cases). Annalog to the prusian law, if he were prusian citisen, he had used correctly v. and not von. The family Fricowski is origin of the city Krakow/Krakau.

Maybe interesting for You is the fact, than in Polish said sometimes to Germans Fritz/Fryc (in negative mind).

It is possible to say more, if You can send a scan of the information from GStA concerning this LEO.
