Researching families

Dear listmembers

Please excuse my writing in English but I have a bad knowledge of German! But you can answer in German if that is the only way

I am looking for any information regarding the following Jewish families :
Gallus in Karlsbad (now Karlovy Vary in the Czech republic) in the 1930's
Breitbarth in Beneschau (Kr Ratibor) now Dolni Benesov in the Czech republic before WWI
Lindner in Ostrava before WWI
Kornblum in Rybnik (Poland)
Priester Gogolin (Poland)

Also can anyone give me an idea of the origin of the name Gallus ? Thank you for your help . Claude Echard

Hello Claude,

Also can anyone give me an idea of the origin of the name Gallus ?

There was an Austrian composer who changed his name (HANDL, which means chicken)
to GALLUS, the official Latin name for chicken / rooster. I myself have an
ancestor who changed in the 17th century his name KATZ (meaning cat) into
CATTUS, the Latin name for cats.

The name Gallus was used locally in very early time also as given name (Gallus
is a saint).

But there might be also other possibilities for Gallus.
