I am trying to connect three brothers that emigrated to Texas in 1846. I
show two THIELE brothers, August and Wilhelm emigrating on the ship Talismen
from Antwerp to Galveston departing 2 Jan 1846 and arriving 11 Apr 1846. It
lists their hometown as Poehlde or Pohlde. My understanding of German
geography is limited. Would this be anywhere near Peine where my forefather
Heinrich THIELE is listed as emigrating from? Thanks in advance for any
help you can give me.

These is a town by the name of Pöhlde which is 58 miles south from
Peine. Pöhlde is near Herzberg which is south of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. You
can check this out on Mapquest.com.
Poehlde is today part of Herzberg, a city within the county of Osterode am Harz.
A closer look at the link above will tell you more of this formerly independent place and
its history of more then 1000 years.
Enjoy it!
The distance between Peine and Poehlde ist about 50 miles.
A wonderful gazetteer I use for German villages is at calle.world ... if you Google that it will show you their new web site at something like fallingrain.com and if you click on the appropriate choices you will get to complete information, maps, and Google links for your village.
