Debi:
I have one Klosterman in my family tree. Harry B. Klosterman married Frances Dorothy Helmstetter in 1907, probably in Cumberland, MD. I don't know anything about him or his relatives. Do you have a Harry, born about 1880-1885 in your tree? This Klosterman was probably Catholic as his in-laws were Catholic.

Susan, My father was named Harry Bernard Klosterman...but of course he was born much later...1926. His grandfather was Harry George Klostermann but he was born in Covington, KY. My whole Klostermann/n family was/is Catholic. My great, great grandfather (Franz Klostermann) came to the U.S. thru Baltimore in 1860. He had a daughter born in Maryland around 1861 but we don't know who the mother was. The daughter was raised by him and his wife (Angela Recker) who he married in Covington, KY in 1872. It is possible that my Klostermann had relatives in Maryland. One of my great grandfather's brothers disappeared from all records around 1900. His name was Joseph Klosterman. We think he went to live with relatives in another state but I can't seem to find anything about him.

This reply is concerning your daughter that was born in Maryland. Many
German immigrants to Baltimore attended St. Michael's Roman Catholic
Church, 7 South Wolfe St., Baltimore, Maryland. There were other
catholic Churches in the city that were specifically built for German
immigrants. St. Alphonsus was another German parish that precedes St.
Michael's.
I have researched St. Michael's records at the Maryland state Archives
in Annapolis Maryland and found quite a bit of genealogy material. The
older baptism records usually list the mother's maiden name and her
place of birth.
The church of the Latter Day Saints Family History Library only lists
Baptism records on one CD for the years 1852-1881. The actual number of
records at the state archives covers virtually all baptisms, marriages
and funerals.
Good luck with your search
Bernie Punte
Bernie, thank you for your information about which Catholic Churches were in the Baltimore area. It gives me a place to start looking. The question of "who was Caroline's birth mother" has been a mystery....it has been a brick wall for us. At least this will give us a start on where to look. I thought when I ordered her death certificate it would tell us her mother but it just listed Angela Klosterman as her mother and we know that is not true.
Now I just need to get to Baltimore!
Thanks again,

Hi Deb.
Try using the Baltimore Mailing list at Roots Web as I do , after
all Australia is a lot further away?
Regards Bill.HINTE.
Debi,
Here is the place to look for Maryland records.
http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/
They are located in Annapolis, Maryland. I was a little disappointed to
find only one roll of microfilm on the LDS website.
I have obtained a lot of information from the state archives, only
exceeded by the LDS library. With the help of other Puntes, recently I
was able to connect several major branches of the Punte family together.
With the assistance of the mailing list I was able to locate the German
church records for my ancestors, and discover the "Punte" name (a farm
name) goes back to 850 in tax records.
Lots of luck on your search.
Bernie
PS it took about 15 years for all of that to happen.
