Deanna,
Well, since you know his birth place and date you have a good place to
start. Upon checking the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Library catalog at:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
you will find that the church records for Stuer from 1681 to 1911 are
available on microfilm. You can go to your nearest Family History Center
and order film number 69596 which has the births, deaths and marriages from
1850 to 1911. It should cost you about $3.50 to get the film to the FHL for
about 5 weeks of viewing time.
Of course the records are going to be in the old script that was used in the
time period, so you might need some help from someone who knows how to read
it to help you read through the microfilm. You should, however, if your
information is correct, be able to find a birth record which should also
give the names of his parents and possibly where they are from. From there
you might be able to trace the the family back through the church records.
The other film number for the period from 1681 to 1845 (with some gaps) is
69595.
According to the MFP Location database at: http://www.mfpev.de/ Stuer is 9
km southeast of Plau.
You can also view a map that will locate Stuer for you at the above MFP site
by searhing for Stuer and then selecting one of the six selections that come
up and clicking the "show the selected location on a map" button.
You can see a better map at:
JewishGen Gazetteer . Just search for Stuer
in location: Germany and a list will come up where you can select the
appropriate village name. Then click on the coordinates to display a map.
Hope this helps.
