Re: Vanderlinde Family Research

Hello,

My name is Sheila Vanderlinde. I am researching the family of William and
Gertrude Vanderlinde. I have not been able to get beyond them. Here is the
information that I have.

William: Born 1824--Died 1898, in Minnetrista Township, Hennepin County,
Minnesota
Gertrude: Born March 28, 1838--Died May 12, 1925, in Minnestrista Township,
Hennepin County, Minnesota. We have several maiden names for Gertrude:
Fanica, Fonica and Fanicer. One reference to her father as Lambert Fanicer?
(Last 2 or 3 letters of the name are illegible.)

Both are buried in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, St. Boniface, Minnesota

According to the 1900 Census they arrived in the US in 1868.
According to the 1930 Census their native country was Westphalia, Germany.

All Census Records with their names on them with the exception of the 1880
census, say Germany as the native country. The 1880 census says Prussia. The
1930 census is the only one that gives an additional location: Westphalia.

We know that they rented a farm in Reserve township, Ramsey County, St. Paul,
MN, in 1880 until 1889, when they bought the family farm here in Minnetrista
Township. The farm is still in the family, being operated by a Great
Grandson.

William and Gertrude had 10 children. The first 2 are said to be from another
wife, who passed away. William remarried, (Gertrude) and had 8 more children.
I have not been able to confirm this. All records that I have, state that all
children were born in St. Paul, MN. The oldest child, William (Jr.?) is said
to have died at approximately age 20 of diphtheria. No confirmation on that
yet. The second child Mary, I found in Portland, Oregon. On her certificate
of death, it says that she was born in St. Paul. The informant on the
certificate was her daughter. She knew the name of her Grandfather, but not
the name of her Grandmother. I have found that records and information given
by other members of the family, can certainly be incorrect. Birth years for
William Jr., and Mary were 1864 & 1866, which would indicate that they were
not born here in the States.

The remainder of the children are all born after 1870 as follows, Henry,
Gesina, Sister Leocadia (Wilhelmina, Minnie), Herman, John, Elizabeth,
Anthony and a baby.

I do not know if either William or Gertrude had any siblings, either in
Germany or here in the states. I have come to a brick wall in my search for
them and would appreciate any help that you could give me.

Thank you for your time, Sincerely,
Sheila Vanderlinde
