Hallo Irma,
In reading many German church records, I have found the following occupations listed:
You are right the occupations are laborers
Tagelhner is a a day worker, who works small jobs paid by the day
Arbeitsmann is a working man
Hofgnger or Scharwerker is a day laborer on a farm
and Knecht is a servant; farmhand;apprentice; errand boy; laborer
My dictionary translates each of them as a day laborer. Is there a difference in their occupations as day laborers, or do they all mean the same thing? Appreciate your help, thank you.
