"Re: Re: Hanover" message with virus

Leslie, Just turned on my PC and tried to read e-mail messages. My screen flashed a Red Alert....My Norton antivirus program picked up a virus on your message and fixed it before it could do any damage. Please look into the problem as your PC may be infected. Here's the message I later received from the program:

This file: "New_Napster_Site.MP3.pif" was infected with the: "W32.Badtrans.B@mm" virus.
The file was quarantined by Norton AntiVirus. Tuesday, November 27, 2001 06:56

Please do not send any further messages until you've cleared the problem. No reply..... Marion

This file: "New_Napster_Site.MP3.pif" was infected with the: "W32.Badtrans.B@mm" virus.

There is a new virus in the internet that is a real threat to people
using Outlook Express V5 or V5.5. This email will infect your PC even
by viewing the email. It sends itself to people whose messages are in
your inbox folder using the subject line of that mail. To tell the
sender about his virus, please note that the sending address is
changed by the virus by putting an underline "_" in front of the
address.

Marion has recieved this virus from Leslie, but it was sent to her
privately. Messages from Hannover-L mailing list are save and will
stay save because attachments are not allowed in this list!

If you take a closer look at that infected email you'll notice that
the To field isn't set to Hannover-L@genealogy.net which is the case
for any list message. To adjust your filter for Hannover-L list
messages you may try a double clause: 1) Subject contains "[HN]" AND
2) To or CC contains "Hannover-L@genealogy.net".

No about the virus:
If you havn't done within the last three days, please update your
virus definitions. Otherwise your antivirus software will not find
that virus. You can find information about that virus at
http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.b@mm.html
http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99069
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32badtransb.html

If you are user of MS Outlook Express software, please have a look at
this websites, they tell you how to solve the security issue of your
email software:

Hope this helps stopping the virus flood. Sorry for the lenght.

hannover-l - genealogy.net wieder anmelden.

Hinweis: Durch Deine e-Mail an die Hannover-L-Liste wirst Du in den
nchsten Tagen vermutlich einige mit Viren verseuchte e-Mails
erhalten. Diese erscheinen in Netscape meistens als leere Nachrichten.

Please excuse my last message. It should have been a private on, but I
missed changing addresses as well.

Bitte entschuldigt meine letzte e-Mail an die Liste. Es htte eine
private Nachricht werden sollen aber auch ich hab vergessen, die
e-Mail-Adresse zu ndern.
