RE: parish location & map of parishes

Hi group!

I am looking for a place that was listed on my gggg-grandfather's 1819 census
entry. It states that he was born in Reuden, Sanschow parish and then it had
"Pommern" written below these two places across both columns. Does anyone
know where this is? I can't find it/them on any of my maps.

Also.....is there a map online that shows all the parishes that existed in
the 1800's in Mecklenburg? I am trying to locate all parishes within a
certain area of a parish I knew that my ancestors attended but can't seem to
find certain records in that parish's records. So I need to move out from
that parish to area parishes where they might have been visiting when a
particular event happened.

Thanks for your help!
Julie

Julie,

you have to know, that the place you are looking did not belong to
Mecklenburg before 1945. Pommern was in former times a Prussian province of
which a small part (namely east of the river Oder) remained with Germany and
is now incorporated in the bundesland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Most of
Pommern is now part of Poland. In this part you need old maps to find places
with the German names that are used in the old dokuments. Recent maps with
Polish spelling are often no help.

I was searching for Reuden or Sanchow in the maps I have without success. So
I assume, to find this places you need a map of a better scale than
1:1.000.000. Perhaps the 1:300.000 map "Pommern" will be helpful. It is
obtainable for DMarks 20,00 (plus shipping) at the

Institut fuer Angewandte Geodaesie
Aussenstelle Berlin
Stauffenbergstr. 13
D-10785 Berlin

This map is a reprint of a map published about 1938. It does not aim to show
all the parishes existing in that or former times.

Perhaps, somebody else has a better suggestion. Good luck for your searches.

Wolfgang
