How does a person go about finding out what town in Mecklenburg their
ancestors came from? No documentation says what town in Mecklenburg just
Mecklenburg. Is this like looking for a needle in a haystack especially
when the name is Meyer?
You are right with that name MEYER its is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Do you have any clue, from any other documentation, to know in which area the family lived.
Some time some one mentioned an area or town.
You have to get back step by step.
Where some one lived. Checking on death certificates.
Some records at the funeral home. Old news papers, immigration papers,
shipping list and others ....
The biggest mistakes is made, when some one finds out the person
came from the old country. They start searching in that country.
The best thing start from the last place were the person lived, then go back step by step and check every thing how and were the person lived.
I found a towns name on an old family picture. No on would look there
for it.
Try Google enter "Meyer genealogy".
Take your time( a lot of time) and read all you find about that name.
Even the spelling could be different:
Meyer, Meier, Mayer, Maier, Mayr
Don't give up.
Good luck hunting
