Dear Anna,
I have always loved hearing mom's stories about family and friends when she was growing up.
However...
My reply I suppose should be filed as "hearsay." I should have checked my facts before I posted that reply. I'm sorry.
The way mom pronouced the name Ka-Nay-bel. K (short a) Nay-bel (rymes with able). I thought spelling was Knable. It appears the spelling was KNEBEL per moms note. And Aunt Mamie was my grandmothers friend, not great-grandmothers friend....
And by moms note Mamie was KNEBEL by marriage. Her husbands name was Pete. She was the sister of my grandmother (Helen Miller-Feldhaus) best friend Caroline. Caroline was the maid of honor in 1935 when Helen married Robert Feldhaus at Sacred Heart (University Street) in St. Louis City. Helens marriage record indicates Carolines maiden name was Bloesch or Ploesch (church register hard to decifer). I'm sorry for misinformation. I have included mom's note.

MAMIE (MARY) KNEBEL WAS THE SISTER OF CAROLINE WOOD, WHO WAS MARRIED TO GEORGE WOOD. THEY WERE MY MOM & DAD'S BEST FRIENDS.
WE ALWAYS CALLED THEM AUNT MAMIE, AUNT CARE, AND UNCLE GEORGE, AND WE LOVED TO VISIT THEM

Mom grew up in a 5 room house. 2 bedrooms...And..11 people lived there... had 2 bedrooms..and Grandpa, Grandma, Greatgram, Mom and her 7 siblings....
THE OTHER 2 DAUGHTERS WERE FLORENCE AND LINDA.
ONE FRIDAY, I WAS JUST 14, CAROLYN HAD A WEINER ROAST PARTY, AND THERE WAS A BOY THERE FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HIS NAME WAS ALFRED LANCASTER, AND THE NEXT NIGHT, WE WENT TO A MOVIE, ME WITH ALFRED AND CAROLYN WITH ANOTHER BOY. SO THAT WAS MY FIRST DATE. LOL

I checked St. Louis, Missouri Obituary index. The maiden name was not Bloesch/Ploesch...
Maiden name was BOESCH.
