Greetings
I have 6 (out of 8) German families who came from Westphalia to St.
Louis between 1852 & 1858. Herford, Steinhagen, Enger, Borgholzhausen,
Guetersloh, Vermold
etc.All went from Bremen to New Orleans and up the Mississippi River by
boat,EXCEPT my Gt. Gr. parents from Guetersloh went to Hamburg and then NYC
May 1858.Why?
It appears to me that Bremen was easier to reach , part by boat and
later by train. but why go so much farther to Hamburg. Is there any
study that I could check concerning this area of the before they boarded
the ship?Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Tha nk you
