RE: Hermannsburg Missionhaus

I also obtained a class photo of my Great Grandfathers class from 1867 - 1872 from the Hermannsburg Archiv. The last names of the men pictured are as follows:
Michels, Wilke, Proft, Schulenburg, Lange, Reuschel, Bsche, Dammann, Freese (Frese), Endeward, Torney, Wickemeier, Hlzel, Weissbrodt, Bruer, Lembke, Jonas, Rehn, Bhring, Drgemller, Schrader, Gerken. This is the earliest photo that I have of my Great Grandfather.

To date, I have been able to pass copies of the photo on to the families of Freese and Drgemller.

Hi , I am interested in the SCHRADER entry mentioned by the lister on the back of a photo from 1867- does it give a first name or just the Surnamme ?

Hi Joanne:

Boy! How dull, boring and uninteresting data suddenly becomes an exciting front page extra!

I was just giving the listings concerning Hermannsburg Missionhaus cursory review when I saw my surname in your list of the people in your photo.

Bsche Spelled the same way my GF did, including the umlaut. That is one thing, but then I looked on a map and discovered Hermannsburg is not that far from Hoya, or Eystrup which we believe to the the church GF and his parents attended. A third item is that GF had a brother Johann George Ernst who would have been 27 years old in 1867. Would this be the age of a person in the refferenced class?

Since I have not been following this thread closely, I have not noted if it is possible through some contact to obtain more information about the Bsche in the picture.

Another question would be concerning the Missionhaus' attitude toward alcohol. I know there are many jokes and traditions concerning beer and Germans, but my family were absolute tea totalers. I have never heard anyone say, but I bet they backed Prohibition in the U.S.
