RE: Hermannsburg Missionhaus

Gary,

Thank you so much for your additional information on the Hermannsburg Missionhaus! I visited the Lneburg area briefly in 2002 but did not have time to visit Hermannsburg and the Missionhaus. A friend of my cousin's in Lneburg had a copy of this book and sold it to me to bring back with me. The information on the book itself is as follows:

Title: Die vergessenen Shne Hermannsburgs in Nordamerika
Brief description on title page: Vom Dienst Hermannsburger Pastoren und ihrer Frauen an deutschen Auswanderern in Nordamerika 1864-1912.
Publisher, etc.: Ev.-luth. Missionswerk in Niedersachsen 1998, Verlag der Missionshandlung Hermannsburg, ISBN 3-87546-113-4,
Gesamtherstellung: Missionshandlulng Hermannsburg Umschlaggestaltung: Dirk Riedstra/ELM

Since the book was just printed in 1998, I am sure that copies would be available through the bookstore at the Hermannsburg Missionhaus.

I am not sure why, but there is no information in the book on Lorenz, but there is on Georg Landgraf. If you have the earlier autobiography that he wrote, you may already have this information, but this is what the book has:

Landgraf, Georg
geb. 22. Oktober 1835 in Kothigenbiebersbach, Bayern
gest. (vor 1915)
5. Kursus Missionsseminar 1863-67
1867 ausgesandt nach Amerika zur Missouri-Synode
Bedient Gemeinden in Achison, Ka., Dekatur, Ill., und St. Louis, Mo., 1901 in Ruhestand.
1904 in Deshler, Nebr., 1905-14 gleiche Adresse wie Pastor Wm. Landgraf, ab 1915 im Amerikan. Kalender fr ev.-luth. Christen und im Luth. Almanac nicht mehr erwhnt.
Heiratet Louise Wolters aus Soltau
HMB 1863, 211; 1867, 172, 207, 244; 1870, 83f (Brief) Haccius II, 626

The book is in German, of which I am not fluent! It is a small paperback of 198 pages, so would be easy to ship.

It was very interesting to me that Hermannsburg Missionhaus tracked their students service in the Lutheran Church. Also, my Great Grandfather kept in touch with several of his classmates after coming to America. His third wife was the widow of a former classmate. Also, on the ship manifest to America, he is listed as a missionary.

Can you tell me any more about the Lebensbeschreibung or autobiographys that might be available?? I would be interested in writing to the school to see what other information they might have on H. Wilhelm Endeward.

Do you also have any photos of the school that you might be able to share?

Thanks again for all of the information!
