Blessings, Klaus,
Saw your post on the Hannover listserve and thought Id introduce
myself. I know that my line of Bohdes came over from the port
at Bremen and landed at nyc in July of 1854. they were from the town
of Hajen on the WesserRiver, south of Hannover and near Hameln. They
settled inside of one month in the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. They
were farmers.
My g-g-grandfathers name was August Bohde, but on the ships manifest,
the H is not present. They founded a Lutheran church in FW and they
are listed with the H, but the other members of the family dont have
it. Understand that the H does nothing to change pronunciation or the
like.
Im in the Detroit, Michigan area, my paternal grandfather moved here
in 1919 to work for the auto companies.
What part of Germany does your family come from?
Blessings!
