The book you have 1871 military.Does it list privates or just officers.I know in 1871 there was a
war.I am looking for a Johann Frieredrich manthei(y) who may have been in the war.

The Rang- und Quartierliste only shows officers and equal judical, medical/veterinarian ranks plus military administration civil servants of equal rank.
Unfortunately my earliest list is that of 1889.
However, the "loss lists" KIA, wounded, missing has been printed and is available in larger German archives.
