I looked for John Henry Vick on the Online-findbuch. I don't think
he's there. Sometimes names can be wrong--they may be called one thing, but
are listed somewhere with another way (like Heinrich Johan instead of the
other way around). Barring that kind of situation, I don't see his name
there unless it was spelled Ficke or some such.
Are you sure that his birthplace is Hannover? Is he the John Fick in
the 1880 census, born about 1828, living in 1880 in Amherst Erie NY? Do you
have a marriage record?
There are a lot of Ficks online! If you haven't, you should check ship
lists at http://www.immigrantships.net/
I checked through there very quickly, but I didn't see him there.
Also, the Mormon website at www.familysearch.org.
I also found a lot of Ficks on: http://meta.genealogy.net/index.jsp
There are so many Ficks listed there I stopped looking! Email addresses are
listed there for the person who put the name there. You can contact them.
