Question

In your searches for the name Bergedorf did you ever come across the name being spelled Burgdorf? As I have posted several times on the list for Julius Burgdorf I wonder if there may be a connection, a misspelling somewhere down through the years. My Burgdorf supposedly came Hildesheim in Hanover but listed
Baddeckensted as his place of origin on the Hamburg emigration list.
Phonetically the names sound similar.

Hello Max,
    When I read your latest note, I thought I'd look once again for your
Julius Burgdorf. I went to the Niedersachsen archives:

I ran a search for Julius Burgdorf and there were a number of Burgdorfs
listed. I found this one:

1. Burgdorf, Julius, Barbecke
3. Häusling
5. Burgdorf, Christine, geb. Evers; Burgdorf, Sophie;
    Burgdorf, Julius; Burgdorf, Conrad;
    Burgdorf, Wilhelmine
7. Amerika
8. 11.10.1849

This is under Staatsarchiv Wolfenbüttel
  Amt: Salder

I don't think it is your Julius though because of the date of emigration.
But notice the town listed there: Barbecke which is southwest of Lengede. My
map shows a church in Barbecke, but it looks like a very small town. When
we look at place of origin, it may not be the birthplace, but the last
residence at the time of emigration.

I think I remember that you had seen this information before. Sorry if I'm
repeating what you have already learned! Here's the name of the church in
Barbecke:

Maybe you could contact that church and see what they have. The LDS has a
few civil records for Barbecke.

Maybe someday we will hear that you have found your Julius' family!

Barbara
