Hello,
Does anyone know how long it takes to get records from the Osnabruk Archives.
I sent a request several weeks ago and have heard nothing from them.
Has anyone had an experience like this.....?
thank you,
Shirley
Dear Shirley,
Did you send request by email? If you did...Did you check your junk mail? You can miss a reply to mail if your email security settings are high or exclusive.
I can tell you that it took N.A.R.A. about 6 months to send me photocopy of a shiplist. There was contact after about 2 months or so.... They sent my check back to me...once..I don't remember quite the reason why..but finally ... it arrived.
I think you might send a short note to ask if they had recieved your request might help.
Reading microfilm is not easy. Eyes tire. Words run together. Handscript hard to decifer.
What information exactly do you search for?

Shirley,
Yes, it's time to inquire about your request. At least, they can tell
you if they received it and when you might get the goods. Do it!

We waited more than 12 years -- perhaps 15 years -- after they cashed our check
for information from a religious order about a priest in the family. [they had a lot of
upheaval ... and moving of their HQ to another state, etc., during that time].
When it finally came, it was a treasure trove and included his autobiography
with all the family names, villages, etc., etc.
For a public archive or registry office, 12 weeks is not unusual ..... plus a week
each way in the mail to Europe. Be patient awhile longer. Several weeks during
summer vacation time when people are out of the office is nothing!
And Europeans do not work crazy 60-70 hour weeks as we do!
