Question for the list

List

There seems to be a generally agreed upon time [1668 +/-] when it is not feasible to acquire common source information - births, deaths, etc. Is this corect? If so, what happened to make it so?

Thank you for your time

This is an explanation about record-keeping in Germany from the LDS site:

CHURCH RECORDS

Hi Gary,
The "Thirty Years War" between Catholics and Lutherans took place between
1618 and 1648. Since it was a "Religious War", many of the churches and
Church Records on both sides were destroyed. The war was devestating to the
populace with as much as 25% of the population disapearing in some areas!
It's not surprising that it may have taken another twenty years± for everybody
to get their act together and start keeping consistent records.
