Dear List members,
I would just like to list again my family that I am searching for. Mainly it is the Radloff family in Mecklenburg Strelitz & the Pruss family in Mecklenburg Schwerin. I would like to know if anyone else may be searching these same families. have recently sent some of the Pruss info. to a member & thought that I would send it to the list as well.
Here is a little of my history that I have collected & like all there are discrepancies, gaps & always more questions.
Mathias (Thiess) Pruss lived from 1727 to 1804 which is the furthest back that I have been able to trace this family to date. His oldest son, Mathias Friederich married Catharina Margaretha Wegner in Moisall a small village near Butzow, Mecklenburg Schwerin in 1786. Mathias & Catharina's son Fridr. Johann Christoph later became the 'Founder of the Ontario Pruss Family'.
Fridr. Johann Christoph (John) married Louise Charlotte (Lotte) Cords 1823c. No records could be found in the Moisall church district of their marriage & also no records of Louis's could be located either. Some later records indicate that she may have been born in Grossen Zirn???, Meck.-Sch. 1795c. John was born 1789 in Moisall.
John & Louise appear to have had at least 6 children born to them. When Louise died in 1877 (in Can.) the records state that she had 6 children & that 3 sons were surviving and 1 son & 2 daughters had predeceased her. As only 3 sons came with them to America, it is possible that the other 3 children had died before 1853 or else they had corresponded in order that their mother would have known that they had died??? Birth records have been found for 5 of the 6 children thanks to the Ev. Luthean church records at Moisall.
In Oct. 1853 John, Louise & their 3 sons, known to us as John, Herman & Fred left for America via Hamburg. John Sr. was 63 yr. old (a farmer but not land owner), born & living at Moisall, Lotte (Louise) was 55 yr. old & their sons were 28, 23 & 16 resp. at the time of theri departure as stated by the state Archives in Schwerin. Fred is my ancestor. 2 of the 3 boys married Radloff sisters (from Meck. Strelitz) but I don't know exactly when the Radloffs sailed or arrived in America.
I found the 1st. clue to where in Germany from my Grandmother's 'birth/baptismal certificate' which was quite a large one & quite decorative. She was not born in Germany but here in Canada in 1875 (died 1980) but on the birth cert. it gave here father's place as Moisall - & that proved to be my most important piece of info. I have never found any info. that spelled the name as Brusch or Bruss but maybe that is why this gets more confusing eh.

I have included as much info. that is referenced to Germany as possible as well as giving full names & nick names etc. I don't know if it will be of any help but hope so. I am sorry to have taken so long in sending this but I just couldn't seem to find the time to gather it all together. Next week I will be leaving for a 2 wk. holiday.
I will be unsubscribing to the list for about 3 weeks as I am going on holidays. I am having trouble unsubsribing but hopefully it will get sorted out but will leave my email in case there is still difficulty later in returning.
