John,

I learned 3 days ago that my great grandfather died in Schwerin in 1961, now
I am trying to discover what he did from 1920 to 1961.I would like to know if
he had a family there.
Is there any address book for Schwerin, for the period between 1940 and 1961
?
Best regards
Patrice

I can't find a reference to Schwerin Adress/Einwohnerbucher.There must be
some. The ones I have seen for other cities listed only "head of
household",adress and occupation.

I presume you have exhausted the memories and records of his closer
descendents.

Some possible directions if you don't get the info you want from this
group.

Someone found references to my grandfather in "Die Karte Quassowski" series.
It was his obituary in Danzig 1930.

Someone wrote me "....I went to an ordinary (sic german) library and found
the following entries in a list that gives ALL books and publications since
1700 until
now"- it was two listings of minor publications by a relative of mine in the
section for 1911-1965.

NSD (Nazi)party records were recently shipped from Berlin to the National
Archives? of the US in Washington DC. They are being cataloged. Someone a
year ago was willing to go there, lookup the surname for free, and charge a
fee only for copies of relevant documents. Unfortunately I have not seen any
reference to him recently. Sorry - have lost his name/Email address.

Perhaps you could get access to his STAZI records ? Seems unlikely, but it
might be a treasure trove.

Based upon my own experience, all the Liedecke today may be related to one
or two individuals about 1780. Some of the Liedecke in the German telephone
book might be reasonably close relatives with photos etc. I would write them
all ( expect about 4 replies). Incidentally there are about twenty listings
in the USA. This would indicate a possibility a Liedecke family emigrated
about 1850-1900? (to Texas?).
Sorry I can't be of more help-Good luck!
