I'm taking my family to Disneyworld for a few days and I hope the discussion
gets back to genealogy & history in the Hannover area in the meantime.

The current discussion about Russian and Germans killing each other is
heading a bit afield. It should be self-evident to everyone that war is a
holocaust of it's own making and that however people are killed, they are
still dead. War only shows us humans how far we still have to go before we
grow up and become truly civilized. In the meantime we are not really
different from all those before us who cause so much misery upon mankind.
But we don't have to go into te causes or blaming any one nation or people
just because their leaders permitted, encouraged or started a war upon other
people. It is a human dilemma, not an ethnic one. So back to Hannover and
its involvement in this human history.

How can you argue with a pragmatist? I surrender (figuratively anyways).
Neil, I wanted to thank you for the kind words before I forgot. My views are hardly conventional I'm aware, thus it's easy to offend. Frank and I simply disagreed on this one to kick it off. That said, I know there are plenty here that share his view too. It certainly wouldn't stop me from buying him a beer at the end of the day to hash it out further, both sides willing (firearms checked at the counter accordingly :: would have to be an Olympia too, considering where he is).
Mona may have said it best in another thread:
It really is difficult, at this distance of nearly 150 years, to assign motives to the actions that were taken that long ago.
Maybe that applies to 60 years also.
